Searching for my Grandfather: A Saint-Pierre Ghost Story and other Tales of Old Saint-Pierre
When freelance travel photographer, Clare, is assigned to cover the centennial of the 1902 eruption of Mont Pelée, she takes the opportunity to search for clues to the life of her grandfather, who was born in Belle Epoque Saint-Pierre, Martinique, and who lost his family to the volcano. While he was alive, her grandfather never revealed the story of his early life on Martinique, or the mixed-race family he left behind. She wants answers, but sometimes your stubborn ghosts aren’t speaking either.
Searching for my Grandfather is a story about race relations, the legacy of colonialism, and what it means to be a white person among the descendants of slavery.
Also included: Two short stories and an excerpt from our forthcoming Ghosts of Saint-Pierre.
